If there was ever any doubt, we now know that I am really on the transplant list at Duke!! We had our first dry run last night.
Got a call at 4:36PM yesterday afternoon and were told to report to the hospital as soon as possible. Lungs may be available!! Arrived at the hospital before 5:30 and got checked in to the short stay area. Had to put on one of those awful hospital gowns and then had all of the necessary blood work, chest Xray and vitals done. Then the wait began.
At 2:30AM this morning we got a call from the coordinators and we found out that when they arrived to actually harvest the lungs they decided they were not acceptable. Duke will only take the best and I like that!! So we were mustered out and allowed to go home.
This was very scary for me but at least now I know what to expect and how the process works.
Keep praying for us that we will get some great lungs soon!!
Sherry, I'm sorry the lungs didn't work out, but as you said at least you know part of the procedure. The more you know, the less frightening it will be for you as the unknown is worse than anything.
ReplyDeleteI think you, Sherry from "In the Direction of our Dreams, and Sharon from "The Princess and the Cowboy" have done a great service to people who will face frightening (perhaps the same) illness in the future. Just telling their stories takes a lot of mystery out of their disease for other people.
You're on my good luck list, always!!!
Sharon and Charlie, I'm thinking of you as you travel this journey. Will also lift you up in prayer for peace, comfort, and healing. God is the one who does the miracles.
ReplyDeleteMy nephew, Matt, was in that hospital for the kidney transplant from his mother, Peggy. I think that is a good place for you to be.
Sherry, well yes so at least you know what to expect when "your" lungs arrive. Taking the unknown out of the equation often makes it easier. Hopefully you'll get "THE" call soon! Thinking of you as always!
ReplyDelete"Practice makes perfect" is the old adage. There will be no surprises now-you've made the dry run. Our thoughts and prayers go to you and Charley!
ReplyDeleteAnd only the best for you.
ReplyDeleteNow that you have had the dry run, the next time should be the charm:)
ReplyDeleteNow that that is over with, onto the real thing! So happy that Duke is so picky. That is why they are so good.
ReplyDeletePrayers coming your way my dear!
Wow! That must have been both exciting and just a bit nerve wracking too. You must be right at the top of the list so it's not going to be too long now. All the best!
ReplyDeleteall the best to you Sherry!..hope you get the transplant done soon..sometimes the waiting is the worst part. take care of yourself!
ReplyDeleteI'm happy to hear that Duke is fussy about what they are going to allow for transplants. We want only the very best for you. Praying that you get another call for the real thing shortly.
ReplyDeleteAs disappointing as I'm sure this was, a dry run is a good thing. As you said, now you know what to expect, and that takes much of the fear away. Good luck!
ReplyDeleteGreat attitude as always Sherry! So sorry this wasn't the time, but you only want the best. It will so be worth the wait.
ReplyDeleteIt is great to know the system is working. The next call may just be the "best call".
ReplyDeleteWhile this trial run was an emotional rollercoaster, what a valuable step in your preparation for the real thing! We're keeping you in our prayers.
ReplyDeleteoh my goodness! that sounds like a roller coaster of a day! but, good to know they are so thourough!
ReplyDeletelove you my friend!
