We now have proof!!

If there was ever any doubt, we now know that I am really on the transplant list at Duke!! We had our first dry run last night.

Got a call at 4:36PM yesterday afternoon and were told to report to the hospital as soon as possible. Lungs may be available!! Arrived at the hospital before 5:30 and got checked in to the short stay area. Had to put on one of those awful hospital gowns and then had all of the necessary blood work, chest Xray and vitals done. Then the wait began.

At 2:30AM this morning we got a call from the coordinators and we found out that when they arrived to actually harvest the lungs they decided they were not acceptable. Duke will only take the best and I like that!! So we were mustered out and allowed to go home.

This was very scary for me but at least now I know what to expect and how the process works.

Keep praying for us that we will get some great lungs soon!!

  1. Sherry, I'm sorry the lungs didn't work out, but as you said at least you know part of the procedure. The more you know, the less frightening it will be for you as the unknown is worse than anything.

I think you, Sherry from "In the Direction of our Dreams, and Sharon from "The Princess and the Cowboy" have done a great service to people who will face frightening (perhaps the same) illness in the future. Just telling their stories takes a lot of mystery out of their disease for other people.

You're on my good luck list, always!!!

  2. Sharon and Charlie, I'm thinking of you as you travel this journey. Will also lift you up in prayer for peace, comfort, and healing. God is the one who does the miracles.

My nephew, Matt, was in that hospital for the kidney transplant from his mother, Peggy. I think that is a good place for you to be.

  3. Sherry, well yes so at least you know what to expect when "your" lungs arrive. Taking the unknown out of the equation often makes it easier. Hopefully you'll get "THE" call soon! Thinking of you as always!

  9. I'm happy to hear that Duke is fussy about what they are going to allow for transplants. We want only the very best for you. Praying that you get another call for the real thing shortly.

  10. As disappointing as I'm sure this was, a dry run is a good thing. As you said, now you know what to expect, and that takes much of the fear away. Good luck!
